About CERL

CERL is a humble project which aims to test and monitor the strength of chess engines. In this rating list, all kinds of chess engines are accepted and welcome, including strong engines that are not included in other well-known rating list.  In CERL, engine strength is top priority. So welcome and enjoy!

 Computed using Ordo v1.2.6.  Anchor "Stockfish 9 = 3450"

Notes:

  1. As stated above, all kinds of chess engines are accepted and welcome in CERL.
  2. All engines will be tested using their 64-bit, multi-core, POPCNT versions if available.
  3. Testing is done by doing engine matches between engines.
  4. Matched engines will play both the White and Black side of a certain opening to observe fairness at all times.
  5. Test Conditions: Time control: 5'+5", Hash Size: 256 MB/core, CERL Opening Book, Fritz GUI, Ponder Off, Book Learning Off, Hyperthreading Off.  Engines own book is also disabled.
  6. Hardware Setup: Intel 8-core CPU, 16Gb RAM, Windows OS 64-bit.
  7. No endgame tablebases will used in the testing.  This is to truly test chess engines in all aspects of the game.
  8. Ratings are computed using Ordo. Reference rating is 3450 for Stockfish 9. All other engine ratings are derived from this number.
  9. CERL is also planning to include Neural Network engines (e.g. Leela Chess Zero) in the testing when a decent GPU becomes available but as of now funds are still insufficient to acquire a decent GPU.  If anyone would like to help in this regard, you can click below to donate or contact CERL at engineratings(at)gmail.com.
  10. Any reactions, comments, suggestions or donations, you may contact CERL at engineratings(at)gmail.com.
